Our advocacy platform rests on:
- Charter school accountability
- Charter school autonomy & growth
- Reliable, equitable and flexible funding streams for all students, including charter school students
Since 2004, the Coalition’s advocacy efforts have provided more money for your school’s budget. Thanks to your support, our biggest advocacy wins include:
- Lease Assistance Fund - Funded at $700 per member, the lease assistance fund is eh single most important source of dollars charter schools use to acquire and fund facilities. For over five years, we have advocated to increase the Lease Assistance Fund—only four states have such a program in place.
- Senate Bill 9 (SB ) and House Bill 33 (HB 3) Funds - In 2009, after three years of advocacy work, legislation was passed requiring local school districts to include charter school students in local mil levy elections. Based on your local district’s tax base, this means tens of thousands of dollars to your school’s budget!
- Lease to Purchase Act - Passed in 2009, this legislation eases the way for charter school facility acquisition. It allows for your school’s mortgage to be amortized for 30 years. This legislation allows HB 33 and SB 9 funds to be used toward an approved lease to purchase arrangement.
