Senate Finance Meets today at 1:30 on SB141

We sent out an email to NMCCS members yesterday. The SFC will meet at 1:30 today to discuss SB141 in room 325 at the Capitol.

This bill will have implications on charter school funding through a new teacher cost index, at-risk factor and a reduction of school size adjustment. This will negatively impact funding for 53% of charter schools.

The Coalition is waiting for the new budget numbers from HB2 appropriations to see an updated impact analysis for charter schools and districts. We will keep everyone posted as new information is collected. NMCCS believes that there needs to be more careful analysis of the bill before moving forward.

If you can get to Santa Fe this afternoon, the SFC will see the charter schools having a strong voice regarding this bill. Greta and I will be there with the lobbyists.

There are clear-cut charter school winners and losers that the bill creates. We think that equity for students is a major issue and needs to be thoughtfully contemplated.

We must stand together to protect the integrity of the charter school movement and fair, equitable education for all students.
